It's Spring! Sort of. But not really. Technically, though! This Sunday you can break away from the post-winter-but-still-kinda-winter-though blues with an unusual and intimate little show we're doing this weekend called "Juxtapositions" - part of the Klezwoods' series happening at the Lilypad this month. We're excited to be their guests in this inaugural show; the Klezwoods are a unique gem in the music world fusing together unlikely elements (klezmer, Balkan music, funky jazz grooves) to create something totally new. We'd like to think we do the same, although that might be the end of our common ground with the fabulous Klezwoods. NONETHELESS, this show is sure to expand your mind, maaaaaan, and stimulate synaptic growth, making you more intelligent and more attractive, as well.

Saturday, July 6th @ Precinct in Union Square, Somerville

So are you ready for the biggest holiday of the summer? No, not the 4th! I'm talking about July 6th. If you're in the Boston area this weekend, this is literally the only event in Somerville and probably also the world observing this sacred secular day. For a span of time that is quite possibly measurable in units, the 6th of July has been celebrated as the date marking two days after the United States' national holiday celebrating the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Traditionally this time is taken by true patriots to blow stuff up and continue being drunk. THIS JULY 6TH, WE WILL BE CARRYING ON THIS DIGNIFIED TRADITION.

The Burners - 9ish Listen
Schooltree - 10ish Listen
Endation - 11ish Listen

Please join us for a night of red-glaring sky rockets in flight and majestic purple mountain hopping. You'll hear something new with The Burners, a unique Gypsy Americana band from Portland, ME (with our bassist Derek Van Wormer guesting). Virtuosic rhythms on acoustic guitar, mandolin and upright bass are complimented by cafe accordion, hot violin, and harmonized vocals. These folks are known for their captivating lyrics, burning tempos, and diverse instrumentation and are sure to be appreciated by fans of Schooltree's music.

Also on the bill are our friends Endation, fresh off an amazing performance at the 2013 Boston Rock'n'Roll Rumble, who will rock you with their stripped down and raw power. Their music is heavy with bombastic rhythms, a fusion of complex and simple while also melodic, serene and emotional.

Schooltree will be bridging the dynamics gap between the two bands with our rock-operatic sound. We have a couple of new tunes, Brendan has a new amp, and Lainey has a new axe that will be on her maiden voyage this show. So keep your drinks off the stage, you drunkards.

May 29, 2013 - Live performance and interview on On The Town w/ Mikey Dee on 91.5 WMFO, 9pm-11pm

June 13, 2013 - Block Island Music Festival, Captain Jack's, Block Island, RI

Friday, March 15th - Schooltree Record Release w/ Count Zero and wanton revelry!

ALL CREATURES SHALL MAKE MERRY
Schooltree Record Release
Friday, March 15th
@ the Lizard Lounge
8:30 doors, 9pm show
21+, $10
Featuring Schooltree, Count Zero, bombastic burlesque, sexy satyrs, olympian comedy, devastating elegance!
Facebook event page here.

Schooltree, fronted by Lainey Schooltree (Steamy Bohemians, Jerkus Circus, Bent Wit Cabaret) performs the ancient rite of ALBUM RELEASE, a mystical festival during which many small discs affixed within squares are released into the wild like so many carrier pigeons of rock.

First: WITNESS wanton pagan revelry in the form of burlesque, comedy, spoken word, bizarre frolicking, and general weirdness celebrating awesome stuff like revolution, rebirth, and getting wasted.

Then: OBSERVE Schooltree (www.schooltreemusic.com) pacify the gods of art rock via the ritual sacrifice of your virginal ears. NONE WILL BE SPARED THE MAJESTY.

Finally: BEHOLD the high voltage, cosmos-rocking, downright mythological wonder that is Count Zero (www.count-zero.com), as they are resurrected from hiatus as was once prophesized by legend.

Original performances by
UnAmerika's Sweetheart Karin Webb (http://www.unamerikassweetheart.com/)

Thursday, February 9th at Church of Boston  w/ What Time is it Mr. Fox? and Goli (!)
69 Kilmarnock Street, Boston, MA 02215
617.236.7600 For what feels like centuries, February 9th - the date nearly equidistant between Groundhog Day (Feb 2nd) and Valentine's Day (Feb 14th) - has been joyously celebrated as a day falling between these two holidays. Legend has it that if you go to a rock club that night and see your shadow in the bathroom, you will find true love in six weeks. If you've already found true love but still see your shadow, you will fall in love with your own reflection in the mirror and have six weeks of awesome parking luck.

Q: What happens if you don't see your shadow?
A: You're fucked.

The ancients knew that the only way to potentially see their shadows in a rock club's bathroom on this sacred day was to venture into the wild to a rock show...

This Valenhog's Day, where else would you go but Church? There, you will be enthralled by three incredible bands, all interweaving musical sophistication with visceral soulfulness and a pinch of silliness. Goli is an adorably sweet yet badass female duo, with its roots in classical music and its teeth cut in the wild world of progressive rock. What Time is it Mr. Fox? is a soulful force of nature, fronted by the incredible Brian King. And SchoolTree has some new material we've been working on, some of which may or may not be hilarious. In addition to that, we have a special guest appearance by the effervescent Jen Keneally and partner Darren Bunch doing original choreography to some of our music.

A show not to be missed on any day, but especially not Valenhog's.

Schooltree at PA's Lounge this Thurs
Last show of 2011!

PA's Lounge: you've been there, you've been drunk there. This Thursday, December 15th, come back and do it again! It's more than just a concrete box... it's a concrete box with music and booze (and you?) inside!
This is our last show of 2011, and for the next couple of months as well, while we go into semi-hibernation for the winter and prepare to go (eep) into the studio, so we really hope to see your winter-ruddied faces there.
We'll be going on late, so if you're in or attending other shows (like the famous, fabulous Slutcracker right down the street), you can totally still make it for our set! YAY!

Get ready to ART OUT - when you bring yo' skillz of an artist to the Middle East Up this Thursday! We are so for-realsies excited for this creativity-interactive show and its fantastic line-up. The evening promises to be an incredible journey through space and time and crayons, with our darkwave jazz friends Jaggery on the bill and the incredible, bombastic experience of BENT KNEE. Bring your own art supplies or use some of the ones provided. Weirdness is, as ever, highly encouraged.

Help us turn the Middle East Upstairs upside-down into an interactive art space ~ for one night only. Bring crayons, pens, pencils, pastels, oils, acrylics, calligraphy sets, stone tablets, etch-a-sketches, play-dough, and paper. additional drawing material will be provided. Approximate set times:

Saturday, October 1st, 2011 @ the Precinct

It's going to be October soon! Don't spend the first night of it moping in your parachute pants. Dance those pants on over to Union Square, where the Precinct holds autumnal whispers of untold hipness and cheap beer.

We'll be joining Endation (members of Faux Ox, Sarah RabDAU & Self-Employed Assassins, and Mascara), Ad Frank, and Jessica Sun Lee in a tasty melange of rock and sah-weet emotion.

And of course we will be rocking the full band; Brendan Burnswill singe your eyelashes with scorching guitar glory, Jordan Rosswill find the groove in your heart, and our new friendDerek Van Wormer will catch you a delicious bass. And I - Lainey - will totally remember the words to all my songs. Bam.

8:30 - Jessica Sun Lee
9:30 - Ad Frank
10:30 - Endation
11:30 - Schooltree

Yep, 11:30. Switch out your postum for some real coffee, you hippies. We're staying up late. I may even break out the Monopoly board after our set.

t r e e h a u s: SchoolTree cd release party
So between the dates of February 1st and the 28th, I recorded an album for the RPM Challenge 2011 (http://rpmchallenge.com/). My challenge to myself: write, arrange, produce, record, play, and/or sequence everything yo'self. The result was a transformative experience that changed my life. It was an amazing and often painful exercise in subverting perfectionism, not eating/sleeping, and consolidating my roles as producer / engineer / artist / nutcase.

It almost broke my brain, but then it saved my soul.

So let’s fucking party, bitches.

I’m releasing this sucker on May 12th with some of my favorite artists, whom I’ve invited to do whatever the heck they want. It's going to be madness, much like the banana in the poster. I’ll also be doing a set with SchoolTree the band, featuring the substantial talents of Jordan Ross (drums) and Mike Leggio (bass).
